Galileo-sired 'slow boat' wins Punchestown's opener J.P. McManus’ Galileo-sired ‘slow boat’ A Great Buzz (100/30) continued trainer Robert Tyner’s excellent run with success in Punchestown’s opening Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Chase today, scoring a last-gasp success under Mark Walsh. By the phenomenal Flat stallion and, unusually, out of Tyner’s Grade 2-winning chaser Byerley Babe, A Great Buzz had failed in nine previous attempts and today looked outpaced for most of the three-miles contest. Under pressure in fourth-place turning-in, A Great Buzz eventually hunted down front-runner James The Brave to lead in the final strides, to register a half-length and breakthrough win. It was Tyner’s fifth win this month and afterwards McManus’ racing manager Frank Berry confirmed “the ground is made for A Great Buzz but she is as slow as a boat. “She jumped the first few fences ok and then she got a bit sluggish, so it was great to get a win out of her. Robert’s horses are running well and long may it last.” Quotes from Alan Magee
