Galway Man to score at Punchestown

For any National Hunt enthusiast after Cheltenham it's always difficult to come back down to earth after spending three days swanning around in the shadows of the Cotswolds but enjoying St Patrick's day at Punchestown ain't a bad alternative if winners happen to come your way.

A competitive seven-race card is the order of the day at the county Kildare track and punters will have to wait until the concluding bumper to find the nap of the session in the shape of the Tony Mullins-trained The Galway Man.

This gelded son of Zaffaran made a very favourable impression when romping home on his debut on Hennessy day at Leopardstown last month.

Coming home with twelve lengths to spare over subsequent Navan winner Whithworth Ben and with Multeen River, who went on to open his account in facile fashion at Thurles, a further eight lengths back in third, the form is rock solid.

He comes here with a tall reputation, one which I expect will be even greater after today for new owners, Gigginstown House Stud .

John Kiely's Take Five appears to have found a perfect winning opportunity in the Locks Restaurant Hurdle over two-and-a-half miles.

Rated 123 over the smaller obstacles, he looks a cut above the rest even if running to seven pounds short of his mark and he is taken to carry those famous J.P.McManus colours into the winners enclosure.

The Eadestown GAA Handicap Chase over a stamina-sapping three-and-a-half miles looks a match between top-weight Woodenbridge Natif and French-bred Fanion De Neulliac.

Slight preference is for the latter to round off a wonderful week for trainer Arthur Moore after Fadoudal Du Cochet's game Grand Annual success last Thursday.
