Galway-regular Evans scoops more earnings Top earner and Galway-festival ‘bridesmaid’ Jesse Evans (7/4f) edged closer to half-a-million euros in earnings today, as Noel Meade's veteran landed Listowel’s featured €11,500 John J. Galvin Chase under jockey Sam Ewing. Carrying the colours of Jack Singleton, the ten-year-old was being pressed by Blood Destiny at today’s final fence, but with that rival blundering, Jesse Evans maintained his gallop to score by nine lengths. Jesse Evans, runner-up in two Galway Hurdles and in last year’s Galway Plate, brought earnings to €477,000 ahead of summer’s showpiece festival, with Ewing reporting “you wouldn’t ride much quicker than him in getting from A to B over a jump and we changed tactics today, and he won well. “To be honest, I hadn’t fully ‘gone’ for him until after the last fence so I thought I had (runner-up) Blood Destiny covered and he jumps so quick, that it would taken a fair one to get by him. “He was very good when I won on him previously at Galway (in September 2024) and that was a good race too and ran a big race in the Galway Plate last year as well. He is a good horse and there is plenty of more fun to be had with him on that ground.”
