Co Antrim trainer Gerald Quinn sent Mount Slemish across the Irish Sea on Monday to contest the bumper at Kelso and the four-year-old gelding was just collared close home.

Mount Slemish had been pulled up in his sole point-to-point in February but was backed at all rates from 20/1 in the morning down to an SP of 3/1.

Finn Lambert was on board and the 7lb claimer attempted to make all over the extended two mile trip.

The Mount Nelson gelding was headed in the final strides by 33/1 shot Rocky Hill and had to settle for second place.
