Charasson was the well-backed winner of the Curragh’s concluding Keadeen Hotel Irish EBF Maiden today, scoring for Royal Ascot-winning jockey Seamie Heffernan, owner/breeders Ballyhimikin Stud and trainer Johnny Feane.

Backed form 33/1 this morning and from 16s on-track, Charasson was returned 12/1 in the 17-runner race and, in the race, skipped clear to score readily by 3.25 lengths from Washington Street .

Homebred-and-owned by James Hanly’s Ballyhimikin Stud near Nenagh, Charasson is a sister to Feane’s smart Ano Syra who placed eight times in stakes races including twice at Group 2 level.

Feane reported “Charasson ran a very promising race the first day when she was a bit slow away, but came on oodles and behaved impeccably today.

“She’s a sister to Ano Syra, who was a brilliant little mare for us and was a real flagbearer. Hopefully this one will progress and keep up the family tradition. She’s only finding her feet and would have learned a lot today. If she gets more professional she’ll get better.

“It’s nice to get a winner on Derby weekend and I was delighted.”

Jockey Heffernan ’s own previous winner came in Ascot’s Wokingham Stakes on June 21 - his first Royal success in six years, on the George Baker-trained Get It .
