Geraghty scores on Bobs

Bobs Worth ran out a game winner of the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle (Registered As The Classic Novices' Hurdle).

Sent off a well-backed 7-2 shot, the Nicky Henderson-trained gelding travelled smoothly throughout the race.

Ridden by Barry Geraghty, he laid down a challenge to the hot favourite Backspin turning for home, and having fended him off, he then saw off a determined challenge from Rock On Ruby in the final furlong.

Geraghty said: "Myself and my brother bought this horse as a yearling and Nicky stole him off me!

"He's a very good horse. He was very green during the race but wasn't going to get beaten after the last.

"That was a good race and he couldn't have done any more than he did."

Henderson added: "It was a good performance. I thought we might be flying a bit high coming here but the amazing thing about this horse is that he's very laid back and he's got a great attitude.

"He travelled very well and he's gone away in the end. He'll go straight to the Festival."

Paul Nicholl's charge lost his unbeaten record over hurdles, but ran a game race in second at 6-1, with Habbie Simpson (9-1) back in third.

Backspin (13-8) eventually filled fourth spot.
