Giant Sequoia doubles-up Following William Hogarth's excellent effort when pushing top-bumper horse, The Jigsaw Man, to the limit, over hurdles at Cheltenham last Friday, another ex-Ballydoyle horse to have found his niche is Giant Sequoia, who made it back-to-back wins for Jane Chapple-Hyam, on the all-weather at Lingfield today. On only his second start for Ms Chapple-Hyam, the chestnut son of Giant's Causeway and Beware Of The Cat, was steered to a convincing two and a half length win by Eddie Ahern, in the Speldhurst Handicap over a mile and a half. The five-year-old, who was sent off the 5/2 market-leader, was following up a Kempton success from 20 days back. Interestingly the trainer said regarding apparent improvement in form on that occasion, that this was the first time the gelding had run from her yard and that he had benefited from having physiotherapy for a back problem. Now running for his fourth different trainer, Giant Sequoia first won off a mark of 55 and today he scored off 60. Giant Sequoia certainly lacks nothing on breeding being a brother to the decent performer, Hitchcock, a three-parts brother to the high-class, Hold That Tiger and he is a half-brother to Belmount Stakes winner, Editor's Note. The dam was a Grade 2-placed two-year-old winner. As a juvenile Giant Sequoia had his one and only start for Ballydoyle, in an October 2006 Navan maiden.
