In the Boodles Yorkshire Cup, Giavellotto claimed top honours by turning the tables on his St Leger conqueror Eldar Eldarov.

After finishing fourth and being promoted to third place due to interference in the St Leger, won by the Roger Varian-trained Eldar Eldarov, Marco Botti's Giavellotto turned the tables on his old rival to take top honours in the Boodles Yorkshire Cup.

In an eventful one-mile-six-furlong feature on the Knavesmire, this time it was Giavellotto causing the interference but, following a stewards' inquiry, the placings remained unaltered.

The 14-1 chance, who had finished ninth behind Broome in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan in March, quickened smartly under jockey Andrea Atzeni to take the lead. However, under pressure, the horse hung left and impeded both the long-time leader Quickthorn and Broome.

Meanwhile, Eldar Eldarov was making his first appearance since the autumn and charged home to finish just half a length behind the winner, with Broome trailing only a further length behind in third place.
