Gillane completes Cromwell four-timer to round off 'brilliant day' Gillane completed a near 40/1 four-timer for Gavin Cromwell, as he deservedly made the breakthrough in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race. Previously in the care of Kevin O'Donnell and second when last seen at Wexford on St Patrick's Day, the Shirocco six-year-old was expected to make the breakthrough this afternoon, going off the evens favourite in the colours of Thomas Mitchell. Never far from the pace under Eoghan Finnegan and improving to lead with over three-furlongs to go, he ultimately kept on well for pressure in the closing stages, beating newcomer Marble Hill (8/1) by a comfortable length-and-a-quarter. Returned at 28/1, Bravewave improved upon his debut effort, finishing another six-lengths back in third. "No he's not (winning out of turn) and it was a good run the last day," Cromwell, who was earlier successful with Ole Ole, Fiver Friday and Take Stock, commented. "It was lovely to win, and we will go hurdling with him now, and hopefully he will make into a better hurdler. "I've no plan to pull up yet, he will be due a break at some stage." On his winners today, the Danestown handler added: "Any day you have four winners is a brilliant day. We had a couple of seconds as well - a second (Struck Oil) here and a second (Le Nez Creux) in Ayr. A great day and great to see the horses running well." Additional reporting by Michael Graham
