Gilligan Given 6 Months By BHA The British Horseracing Authority has found Irish trainer Paul Gilligan in breach of Rule A 29.1 and disqualified him from racing for a period of 6 months. The breach arose when Gilligan ran Dubawi Phantom at Uttoxeter in June 2014. It is alleged by the BHA that the horse had previously competed in an unrecognized meeting (Flapping). The issue had first come to light when the Turf Club prohibited the horse from competing at Galway having received information that it had run at Dingle in 2013 under the name Ayres Rock. The horse, which won the Uttoxeter race, has now also been disqualified. This was a rehearing of a previous case which resulted in a similar penalty but was subsequently quashed due to the involvement of Matthew Lohn. The penalty handed out by the BHA is of the same length as that given to trainer Jim Best last week when found guilty of not running a horse on its merits and had his licence suspended.
