Gils & Jim take the eye at Newcastle

Apart from the Irish runners at Newcastle today, there is also interest to be found in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap Chase at 4.10 with Gilsland and Jimandgary catching the eye.

Gilsland is a half-brother to Irish National winner, Point Barrow and he will represent the in-form pair of Donald McCain junior and Jason Maguire. They were unlucky at Catterick yesterday when Vforvictory crashed out at the last when looking to be in control.

Meanwhile Jimandgary won a point-to-point when under the care of Pat Cody at Ballydurn in Co. Waterford in April 2008. He was in the ownership of Kilkenny hurler, John Tennyson at that time and he was bred by John's late father, Toddy.

He was sold to current connections at the Spring Horses In Training Sales in 2008 at Doncaster for 32000.

Cody explained this morning: "John is a first-cousin of mine and his father Toddy bred the horse. He has passed away since. Chasing is Jimandgary's game, he is a real stayer. He'll definitely win a race. He is a very genuine horse and we liked him when we had him. He is a good tough horse."

Geoff Harker now trains Jimandgary and Paddy Aspell is due to take the mount.
