Frankie Dettori made the perfect start to the final day of Royal Ascot, winning the Chesham Stakes aboard Tha'ir for Godolphin.

The 9-2 chance was produced to lead over a furlong out and ran on strongly to the line to beat Cruck Realta (33-1) by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Lovely Pass (11-1), a stablemate of the winner, ran well in third with favourite Move To Strike back in fourth having refused to settle early.

Jalaa, the subject of sustained market support, was another who pulled his chance away through the race.

Sky Bet make the winner a 20-1 chance for next year's QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

Tha'ir could next report for duty at Glorious Goodwood with Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford reporting: "What a week for New Approach - three winners at Royal Ascot is unbelievable.

"We came here hoping we'd do well, but we are really pleased with this one. We'll obviously talk to Sheikh Mohammed, but he'll maybe go to Goodwood (Vintage Stakes, August 1)."

Dettori added: "The further he was going, the better he was winning. New Approach has had a fantastic week and this is a nice horse for the future. He's not overly big, but he has a good, willing attitude. I was very impressed."

Crisford added: "This horse has been to Ripon twice, which is a difficult track for an inexperienced horse.

"He had to step up today and he has done that. Frankie was keen to give him some cover and that worked well. We have a good team and to come here and bag two winners is great news."

Connections of runner-up Cruck Realta, trained by Mick Channon, believe the filly still has a lot more to offer.

Michael Channon jnr, son and assistant to the West Ilsley handler, said: "We don't know what we've got with her. All she's done is improve and improve. She's a typical Sixties Icon horse as she's bombproof.

"We haven't thought about what we'll do next, but we've got plenty of entries in the big sales races."

Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni was equally satisfied with Lovely Pass.

He said: "She learnt a bit from her first run and she's learnt more today.

"To finish third against colts is like a win for me. She's still very green, but there are no plans. July is coming and we'll see what His Highness (Sheikh Mohammed) wants to do."
