The Prix Rothschild at Deauville is a possible alternative to the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood for Mark Johnston's exciting filly Lumiere.

Last year's Cheveley Park Stakes heroine was bitterly disappointing on her return to action in the 1000 Guineas, but got her season and career back on track in some style in a Listed event at Newmarket earlier in the month.

Lumiere is set for a sharp rise in class on her next appearance, with a clash against the colts in the Lennox Stakes or a trip to France on Sunday week the two immediate options.

The daughter of Shamardal carries the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the son of Sheikh Mohammed, whose Godolphin operation have several options in Tuesday's Group Two.

Charlie Johnston, assistant to his father, said: "We're not sure whether she'll run at Goodwood or not at this stage. That's something for Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikh Mohammed and John Ferguson (Godolphin racing manager) to discuss and they have plenty of options.

"I don't think a decision will be made until declaration time. Lumiere will also have the option of the Prix Rothschild a week on Sunday.

"The Godolphin team are always very good and make sure each horse runs in the race that is right for them. If that means being doubly or triply represented in one race then so be it.

"We've been very happy with the filly since Newmarket."

Whether Lumiere heads to the Sussex Downs or not, Johnston is set to send a formidable string on the journey south for a meeting at which he traditionally excels.

"We're very happy with the team we've got and at the moment it looks like we'll have around 30 runners," said Johnston jnr.

"Let's hope the weather forecast stays as it is, we get some fast ground and there are more hard-luck stories behind us than in front of us!"
