Gowran 50-50 for Friday

Prospects of racing going ahead at Gowran Park on Friday are described as “50-50” by manager Margaret Fogarty.

“We have about two inches of snow on some shaded parts of the course but at least we can now see some grass today which is encouraging.”

“My understanding is that we are not as badly off as some other courses further north. We will be ready to race quicker than most tracks, and two days solid thaw would see us raceable.”

“We are told that there will be a significant thaw on Thursday but at the moment there is frost forecast for Wednesday night which is our main concern. There is no frost in the ground at the moment but the air temperatures are struggling to get above freezing.”

“We probably won't really know until Thursday morning whether we will be able to race or not. It is also in our favour that the meeting is just hurdle and bumper races as the chase course will be last to thaw.”
