Officials at Gowran Park are hopeful of racing going ahead on Saturday, although the situation will continue to be monitored with conditions sure to be testing.

The €50,000 Holden Plant Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase is the highlight, while Salsify is among the entries for the Tetratema Cup Hunters Chase.

Clerk of the course Paddy Graffin said: "I walked the track today and it's currently heavy but fit to race. I would say it is similar ground to the last couple of meetings we had there for the Thyestes and the Red Mills day.

"A lot depends on how much rain we get between now and Saturday, and I've seen a couple of different weather forecasts.

"One forecast predicts about 2.5mm but another one said we could have anything between 10 and 15mm. If we get 15mm of rain we won't race.

"Hopefully we get lucky but it would not take a lot more to push it over the edge."
