Gowran Park has announced a new and exciting partnership with the world famous Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival for 2016.

This will incorporate the best of the comedy world with a full seven race card on Monday June 6th.

Eddie Scally, General Manager of Gowran Park, speaking at the launch said: "I am delighted that Horse Racing Ireland has supported this new initiative by providing us with a race meeting to coincide with the 2016 Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival.

"With the expected usual influx of tourists to the city for the festival on the June Bank Holiday weekend we are expecting a bumper crowd to enjoy a feast of racing and comedy at our track on the Monday.

"We, like all tracks are constantly trying to improve the offering to our racing public and I feel this will offer both exceptional value for money and a brilliant family day out."

Irish comedian, Al Porter was joined by a host of top Irish jockeys and trainers for the launch and said: "I really cannot wait for this day now. Today was my first at a race meeting and the only bet I had before today was my Bette Midler and Davis albums.

"All the comedians are buzzing about this really novel event and we have an unforgettable day planned for those in attendance.

"We have mock bookies, parade ring interviews, comedy commentary and pop-up stand up shows.

"The line-up of comedians is simply breath-taking, aside from the brilliant Al Porter we also have from Ireland, Hector, Jason Byrne, Barry Murphy and Waterford Whispers News to name but a few and international stars such as Jason Manford and Adam Hills.

"Tickets are already flying for this event so I would recommend early purchase for what will be an unforgettable occasion."

Naoise Nunn, of The Cat Laughs Festival, added: "This has been a plan for some time now and we are really excited to be bringing our festival to our local track.

"The Cat laughs Festival is celebrating its 22nd year in 2016 and to partner up with Gowran Park in its 102nd year is a really exciting prospect. We are basically bringing together the two things the Irish do best, comedy and horse racing."
