Gowran very hopeful for Saturday

Gowran Park are due to race next Saturday where the feature will be the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Chase, a race that has attracted an entry of twenty including some quality horses. Cheltenham hero, Weapon's Amnesty, who has enjoyed no luck over fences thus far, has an engagement in the two and a half miler.

Course spokesman, Pat Skehan assessed prospects for the meeting going ahead by commenting before noon: "We just checked with the forecasters there this morning and we're due some substantial rain tonight/tomorrow and there could be anything up to an inch of rain up to Thursday evening.

"Friday is due to be a reasonably good day and the forecast is for more rain again at the weekend. I spoke to Pat Walsh (course foreman) briefly there this morning and he said it is heavy but raceable today. He said parts of the chase track weren't raceable yesterday as there was water actually lodged on it.

"It is actually quite a reasonable day here now but having said that it is starting to turn darker and I'd say we are going to get some rain again in the afternoon. We'll just have to play it by ear each day as it goes. As it stands we'd be very hopeful of racing at the weekend."
