Grand National punter places £100,000 bet on I Am Maximus At least one punter at Aintree has complete confidence in Willie Mullins’ I Am Maximus landing a second Randox Grand National this afternoon – placing a £100,000 bet on course with bookmaker Fitzwilliam Sports. Owned by JP McManus, I Am Maximus was the winner of the world’s greatest steeplechase in 2024 and second 12 months ago, and should he get his head in front again he would emulate Red Rum in regaining his Liverpool crown. Well-known pundit and personality Johnny Dineen is fronting the Fitzwilliam pitch and told the Press Association: “It’s the biggest bet we’ve ever taken, £100,000 at 8-1. “It’s our biggest bet by a mile and we’ll have to try to trade some of it off in the ring. “It goes without saying it would be a bad result for us!” I Am Maximus is one of six runners for McManus in the Grand National, with Jagwar and Johnnywho also towards the head of the betting for the four-and-a-quarter-mile highlight.
