Grands Crus back tomorrow

David Pipe hopes Grands Crus has the best possible start to the season in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Series Qualifier) at Kempton tomorrow.

The Nicholashayne trainer has picked a low-key race for the talented grey's return to action after enduring a difficult last campaign over hurdles and fences.

However, the eight-year-old has to give upwards of 16lb to his five rivals in the two-mile five-furlong heat.

"He could mix it up this season. Basically we want to try and find as easy a race as possible for his comeback," Pipe said.

"Tom Scudamore schooled him and he jumped nicely and we are just trying to get him back on track.

"It was a frustrating season with him last year, we thought he was back on track after he ran such a great race in the King George but he did have a hard race that day and it probably took it out of him and he left his season there.

"He's summered well and we'll make more of a plan after Kempton. He's quite adaptable, he showed at Aintree back over hurdles that he travelled and jumped well for a long way. We just want to see him back in the winner's enclosure."
