Greenwich Heading To York

Greenwich Meantime is reported 'in great nick' ahead of his next big-race assignment in the totesport Ebor at York later this month.

The six-year-old has shown marked improvement since joining Richard Fahey's yard after being bought for 30,000 guineas at the Newmarket sales last October.

The Royal Academy gelding has enjoyed three handicap victories and finished third in both the Chester Cup and Northumberland Plate for his Malton handler.

Newcastle's stiff two miles appeared to stretch his stamina last time but he ran a highly respectable race nevertheless, eventually going down by just a neck and a short head to Toldo and River Alhaarth.

Greenwich Meantime has enjoyed a break since his Gosforth Park run but is now firmly on course for the big Knavesmire handicap on August 23, in which he will be reverting to one mile and six furlongs.

'He's in great nick and everything is going well, no worries,' Fahey said.

'He'd run in some big handicaps so we gave a little holiday but I've got him where I want him at the minute.

'I'm pleased with him and everything is fine for York.

'The drop in trip won't do him any harm as he's got plenty of pace.'

Greenwich Meantime is a general 12-1 shot for the upcoming #200,000 showpiece event, in which he has been allotted 8st 8lb.
