Ground not an issue for Workforce

Lord Grimthorpe does't expect the ground to prevent Workforce from running in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Connections gave him their Investec Derby and Arc hero the green light to run at Churchill Downs on Saturday week (November 6) - but stressed he'd swerve the contest if the ground was considered to be too quick.

However Prince Khalid Abdulla's racing manager told At The Races: "I gather there's been a new strip or a fairly new strip laid and they've hardly used it so it will be a pretty good track and I'm not anticpating a problem there."

Connections have been thrilled with the horse's progress since his win at Longhamp earlier this month.

When asked why they've decided to run in America, Grimthorpe added: "It was the way he's been after the Arc, the way he's gone, his general demeanour and obviously his work has been an important part of that as well.

"He showed us on Saturday that he's in very good form both physically and mentally so we gave him the go-ahead."

Workforce is 6-5 favourite for the Breeders' Cup Turf with Sky Bet.

The Henry Cecil-trained Midday is on target for the defence of her Breeders' Cup Filly & Mares Turf crown according to Grimthorpe.

He told At The Races "Everything has gone really well for her. She came out of the (Prix) Vermeille in good nick, has started up again with a bit of work and she's her old familiar self again. It's very exciting"

"Proviso goes for the mile." he added, meaning she faces a stern test against her compatriot Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

When asked about Prince Khalid's success this year, he added "Its been an exceptional season in every way - we could never have hoped for a year like this. To have the likes of Workforce, Frankel and Midday, its been tremendous and that's not forgetting Twice Over and Byword. It's been really fantastic. "

Plans remain undecided for Twice Over who was described as "bouncing" after his Champion Stakes win at Newmarket.
