Ground soft, heavy in places for Ascot's final day The ground is described as soft, heavy in places for the final day of Royal Ascot. After the torrential downpours of Friday that at one stage threatened that day’s fixture going ahead, it has been dry since 10pm last night. Clerk of the course Chris Stickels said: “We had 44 millimetres of rain yesterday, but it has been dry since 10pm last night. “It’s going to be a generally dry but overcast day, we may get a possible occasional shower later.” As expected, Starman has been taken out of the Diamond Jubilee due to the ground, as has Logician from the Hardwicke.
