Ground worries for Workforce Workforce's participation in the Breeders' Cup Turf remains in the balance after the colt had his first experience of the Churchill Downs turf track under big-race jockey Ryan Moore. Connections of Sir Michael Stoute's Derby and Arc hero expressed grave reservations over the condition of the course after the three-year-year-old's seven-furlong hack. "It's quicker than ideal and we'll have to see how things progress as we go through the week," said Moore. "He moved well and was fine round there in the morning. I would say the ground is good to firm and if it was good to firm on Saturday that would be fine. But if it is deemed to be too fast by Sir Michael he might not run. "There is nothing wrong with the track, the straight is nearly two furlongs long and it looks a lovely racecourse to ride on. I would say he's in better form than when he won the Arc and has improved." The Louisville area has been subject to a seasonal drought throughout the autumn and even though track officials have recently stepped up their watering policy - putting down a quarter of an inch of water every night since October 25 - it seems to have made little impact. Sir Michael Stoute's travelling head groom, Stuart Messenger, has described the turf course as "having a lush grass cover, but being extremely firm underneath". Connections are relying on Churchill Downs accelerating their watering in the run-up to Saturday's Grade One contest, for which Workforce is a best-priced 5-4.
