Gustavus Vassa Joins Mullins Gustavus Vassa looks set to embark upon a jumping career this winter after being snapped up by champion National Hunt trainer Willie Mullins. The three-year-old son of Equiano made a successful racecourse debut at Down Royal in June for County Tyrone-based Andrew Oliver, narrowly beating hardened four-year-old On The Go Again, who has since won four races including a valuable handicap hurdle at Listowel. Gustavus Vassa has subsequently filled the runner-up spot in a conditions race at Gowran Park and finished third in a handicap at Roscommon and Oliver expects him to do well in his new career. He said: "Gustavus Vassa has been sold - he has gone to Willie Mullins. "He is a horse that I would very much hope to see go on. He'll make a hurdler. "He had too much to do in Roscommon but came home very well, which almost advertised his credentials better."
