Harchibald set for chasing campaign

Harchibald is set to be tried over fences in the coming weeks as Noel Meade plans a final swansong for the mercurial star.

A winner of 10 of his 31 starts over timber, he famously finished second to Hardy Eustace in a dramatic renewal of the Champion Hurdle in 2005.

Despite being called a few names in the past, he has nevertheless won five times at the highest level, including two Christmas Hurdles at Kempton.

He may turn 11 on New Year's Day but Meade reports him to be in great form at home.

"We are going to give novice chasing a try this season," said Meade.

"We actually had him in to run at Tipperary on Tuesday but despite him not liking soft ground, as everyone knows, I thought it was just a bit too quick for him there.

"We'll wait a bit longer and hopefully he'll be out soon.

"He is in very good form and I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll get on."
