The death of former trainer Harry de Bromhead has been reported this evening.

Having trained in Knockeen in Waterford he passed the reins to Gold Cup winning son Henry at the turn of the century.

Among major winners trained by de Bromhead senior were the likes of Fissure Seal, who took the American Express Gold Card Final at the 1993 Cheltenham Festival.

He also trained Grand Habit to victory in the 1992 Thyestes Chase, and Bishops Hall, winner of the 1996 Kerry National.

His local racecourse Tramore paid tribute on twitter this evening:-

“It is with great sadness this evening that we have learned of the passing of Harry de Bromhead! A fantastic trainer ,a true gentleman and a great friend of Tramore racecourse. May he rest in peace.”
