Hayley Turner Update

Hayley Turner was taken to hospital on Tuesday morning following a fall on the Newmarket gallops.

Turner was riding work for Phil McEntee when the horse she was on broke a leg and fired her into the ground.

The rider, who became the first female jockey to partner 100 winners in a calendar year in Britain in 2008, was knocked unconscious in the incident but walked into the ambulance.

She was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

"I'm at Addenbrooke's now and I've actually just spoken to Hayley. She is conscious," said McEntee.

"She was galloping a horse when, unfortunately, it broke its leg and went down very quickly and fired Hayley into the ground.

"She was unconscious for a while but the ambulance crew did a great job.

"It was pretty scary. When you see somebody unconscious in that sort of state it is not very nice.

"There were a few Darley head lads around at the time and everybody jumped into action.

"My wife was there as well and she was on the phone to the ambulance crew so she was in good hands," he told At the Races.

Turner is currently undergoing tests to assess the extent of her injuries.
