Hefty fine for Bowen

Trainer Peter Bowen has been fined Stg£1,000 by the Disciplinary Committee of the Jockey Club today over a prohibited substance found in the urine sample of Prince of Galles after the gelding had finished second at Taunton on January 30th.

The urine of the horse was found to contain clenbuterol, which is a prohibited substance.

After considering the evidence, including statements from Bowen, and other witnesses, the committee was satisfied that the source of the substance was ventapulmin which was being administered by a nebuliser to another horse in the yard, on veterinary advice, while the two horses were standing side by side.

The committee accepted an admission from the Haverford West trainer that he was in breach of the rules and fined him Stg£1,000 as this was his second offence within the previous two years.

Prince of Galles was disqualified from second place in the Wedding Licence Handicap Hurdle won by Oh So Wisley with Barton Bog promoted to second, Treasure Chest to third, and Allegation fourth.
