Heliostatic Heads Derrinstown Derby Trial Runner up in the 2000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown last month, the Jim Bolger trained Heliostatic bids to go one better in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes (Group 2) at the same course on Sunday. There were 14 horses left in after yesterday's (Tuesday) forfeit stage. Put away after winning his maiden at the Curragh last July, Heliostatic was narrowly defeated by English raider, Yasoodd, on his seasonal debut and connections will be hoping that this longer ten furlong trip will help him to show the necessary improvement to give his trainer a third success in the race having saddled St Jovite and Perfect Imposter to win in 1992 and 1993.Trainer Aidan O'Brien has won this race on four occasions since 1998 and has left in no fewer than seven horses with Septimus, Poseidon Adventure and Altius among the septet while John Oxx, successful with Sinndar and Alamshar in recent years, could be represented by Caribbean and the impressive Curragh maiden winner, King In Waiting. Dermot Weld's Golden Arrow chased home the brilliant George Washington in last season's National Stakes at the Curragh and he should improve on his second to Rhythm'N Roots in the Ballysax Stakes here in April while Rekaab hails from the in-form Kevin Prendergast stable who has made a fine start to the current season. On the same card, The Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial has attracted 15 entries including three from across the water. The Barry Hills trained Short Dance ran a good race when third in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury on her only outing this year and is sure to be fancied to go close while Jim Bolger's pair, Abigail Pett and Modeeroch, both showed excellent form as two year olds and can be expected to make their presence felt. Dermot Weld's Queen Of Rap is unbeaten on her only two outings to date while the John Oxx trained Lifetime Romance was a good winner of her only start at the Curragh last October and would have to be respected.
