Ernest Hemingway has been ruled out of Friday's Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes at Chester.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien has cited the easing ground on the Roodee as the reason for the five-year-old's absence from a race the Ballydoyle handler has won three times in the last six years, including with the brilliant St Nicholas Abbey.

The Tom Dascombe-trained Brown Panther heads the five remaining runners as he returns to action following a respectable eighth-place finish in the Melbourne Cup last November.

Dascombe chose the Group Three at his local track for Brown Panther's comeback two years ago when he finished last of four, a rare bad run on his record.

Sir Michael Stoute runs Dubai disappointment Hillstar, who steps back up in trip having won the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot last year.

Marco Botti's Mount Athos won the race last year, when trained by Luca Cumani, and is back again.

Last year's Cheshire Oaks winner Banoffee, trained by Hughie Morrison, and Clive Brittain's Jathabah are the two fillies who make up the field.
