Hennessy likely for Great Endeavour

David Pipe gave the clearest indication yet Great Endeavour might take his chance in the Hennessy Gold Cup.

The Nicholashayne trainer is tempted to run the Paddy Power Gold Cup winner in Newbury's prestigious staying handicap chase because of his attractive handicap mark.

The grey was allotted 10st 4lb for the Hennessy on November 26, and has only a 4lb penalty for his Cheltenham success.

Although Great Endeavour has yet to tackle the extended three and a quarter miles of the Newbury showpiece, Pipe believes the seven-year-old will never be as well handicapped again.

However, should Pipe and owner David Johnson decide not to take the Hennessy route, then there is the December Gold Cup back at Cheltenham, in which Great Endeavour was runner-up last year.

"Great Endeavour produced an incredible performance to land the Paddy Power Gold Cup on Saturday under a vintage ride from Timmy Murphy," the trainer told www.davidpipe.com.

"Despite going through the last fence he still won by an impressive seven lengths and is now prominent in the markets to follow up in the Hennessy at Newbury.

"The Hennessy trip is an unknown quantity for Great Endeavour, but with only a 4lb penalty for his Paddy Power success, I think it is fair to say that he will never get in another handicap with that sort of mark again.

"The alternative could be the December Gold Cup at Cheltenham in which he was just touched off last season."
