Church Mountain recorded a ninth career win when taking the Dundalk Winter Series Leading Trainer & Jockey Championship Handicap in ultimately decisive fashion at Dundalk.

Trained by Denis Hogan for Joseph Kelly, the 9/1 shot made headway between horses to lead just inside the furlong pole and soon got on top under Joey Sheridan to score by three lengths. Satono Chevalier took the runner-up spot with 3/1 favourite Baila Conmigo fading inside the final furlong a further length and a quarter back in third.

Sheridan said, “I suppose he kind of gets himself down to a workable mark. He's an oul boyo, but it is about keeping him interested.

"I left him alone and I said I'd ride a race last, running him up the back of horses and coming down between them.

"You have to do different things; some days you go down the inside and he won't do a tap and other days it makes him go forward. He needed a bit of persuasion about four (furlongs) out. He's a boyo, but he can do it.

"He's kind of the type of horse where he wins one and then the handicapper is hard on him, but he's a grand horse.

"I'm delighted for the owner and his wife. They are good supporters of Denis for a good few years now. They would be always asking me when he is going to win, so thankfully he did it for them today."
