Trainer John ‘Shark’ Hanlon plans to run his stable star Hewick in next week's Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup the feature event at Punchestown.

Victorious in 2022 in the Bet 365 Gold Cup, Galway Plate and Grand National Hurdle in Far Hills, New Jersey, Hewick was a faller when running well in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last month but Hanlon says he is in great form and will love some good ground.

"He was running a cracker in Cheltenham. I'd say a lot of people thought we shouldn't have been there but I'd say coming down the hill they all changed their mind.

"He was running well. He hits a flat spot in every race he ever runs and then comes back. It was just one of those things, he didn't put his legs out and fell. But we were all very proud of him and it just proves how good he is.

"He'll be a lot better horse on better ground and, the way things are for the last couple of days, you'd be hoping that the ground in Punchestown will be a lot better."
