Saturday's National Hunt meeting at Hexham has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Course officials brought forward their proposed 2pm inspection on Friday as the situation was untenable.

The English circuit has sustained 62 millimetres of rainfall in the last 48 hours.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: "Apart from everywhere being saturated and wet, there is also a pond forming on the bottom bend as they come up to the two-mile start.

"There is possibly up to 15mm more rain to come, so it was an easy call.

"All of this rain has been pretty unprecedented."
