Hills Looking Forward To July Bid

Michael Hills struck up a great partnership with La Cucaracha last year and cannot wait to get the leg up on the Piccolo mare when she contests the July Cup at Newmarket.

She enjoyed her biggest success last season when taking the Nunthorpe over York's flying five furlongs, but had previously proved equally effective over the extra furlong she will encounter in Friday's test.

Having finished behind Australian raider Takeover Target at Royal Ascot last time, Hills has the utmost respect for Joe Janiak's charge but he was very pleased with La Cucaracha's effort and feels she will have come on for the run.

'I would take nothing away from him (Takeover Target) but I was only beaten three lengths in the King's Stand on the wrong side of the track,' he told At The Races.

'It was her first start of the year so there has got to be a lot of improvement there.

'She proved last year that with every race she got better, and I'm really looking forward to riding her,' he added.

Ladbrokes make the five-year-old an 8-1 chance to land the £360,000 contest, while totesport go 10-1.
