HISTORIC SUCCESS AT HAYDOCK

Tom George`s Historic gave his Cheltenham prospects a boost with a convincing success under Carl Llewellyn at Haydock Park today.

The Royal & SunAlliance Novices` Hurdle hope, under Carl Llewellyn, went on at the second flight and drew clear from three out to beat Gola Cher by 14 lengths with Freetown a similar distance away in third.

George, speaking from Kempton, said: 'It looked a very good performance and I was pleased with him.

'We took him out of the Stayers` Hurdle at the Festival, but he will now run in the SunAlliance Hurdle as long as the word firm isn`t in the going report.'

Flying Instructor showed he was all the better for a wind operation when finding winning form again in game fashion under a determined ride from Russ Garritty in the De Vere Handicap Chase.

Paul Webber`s grey held a slight lead at the last fence and he responded to Garritty`s encouragement to hold off the persistent challenge from Super Coin by one and a half lengths.
