Denis Hogan will wait on the handicapper’s verdict before mapping out a plan for Bellewstown winner Lady Princess.

The Exceed And Excel filly sprang a minor surprise when running out a length-and-a-quarter-winner of a five-furlong maiden on Wednesday, with better fancied stablemate Grammata back in third.

Lady Princess was making her debut for Hogan having had one previous run for Jarlath Fahey and her new handler was thrilled with her winning start.

He said: “We’ve not had her that long, but I was delighted for the owner and very grateful for them sending her to me.

“We expected Grammata to win, but we thought she would run a nice race and she did it well in the end.

“It’s great that she won and she looks progressive, so hopefully she can improve on that again.

“We’ll see what the handicapper does now and decided from there whether we go for a nursery or look at a Listed race somewhere.”
