Sweet filly Beibhinn (7/2 — 5/2) was the game winner of Listowel’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden today, scoring for owner/breeder Annemarie O’Brien, her son trainer Joseph O’Brien and jockey Declan McDonogh.

Translated from Irish to ‘fair woman’ or ‘sweet lady’, Beibhinn had finished fourth on debut at Naas in April and today led seven rivals. Although headed by Big Negotiator with a furlong-and-a-half to race, the daughter of No Nay Never rallied to regain the lead close home, scoring by a half-length.

Jockey McDonogh mentioned “she is very straightforward and always has been from day one. She travels with a bit of pace and when Billy (Lee, on runner-up Big Negotiator) went a neck up on me, I thought he had me but she wanted a fight, and that’s her.

“She put her head down, tried hard and she will get another furlong. I think she will improve to get into blacktype company when she gets an ease in the ground, and I like her.”
