Hopes Rising For Nakheel Bid

Mark Johnston is increasingly hopeful of Nakheel making the Stan James 2000 Guineas and plans to have the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt back in work next week.

The participation of the unbeaten son of Sadler's Wells in the first Classic of the season had been in doubt during recent days after he was found to be stiff and sore following a poor piece of work.

But speaking at Newmarket yesterday, Johnston said: 'He has been very stiff and sore but he seems to be improving.

'The plan was that Sheikh Hamdan's physio would come up to Middleham and see him but he does seem to be a lot better in himself.

'He will now have a full bone scan and provided that is clear he will be back in full work by the start of next week, so all is not lost when it comes to getting him ready in time for the Guineas.'
