HRI announces 2009 fixture list

HRI released the 2009 fixture list today and the total number of race meetings in Ireland next year will increase to 355.

That is 5 more than the total for this year, comprising of 4 extra turf meetings and one more all weather fixture at Dundalk. The Co. Louth venue will stage 26 meetings in 2009.

No fixtures have been allocated to either Tralee (closed) or Curragh after July 26th (development). Killarney is the main beneficiary of the Tralee closure, gaining a four-day August festival while Naas gets three of the Curragh fixtures including the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Goffs Million races.

The number of blank days during the four busiest months of the year (May ? August) has increased from ten to twelve in recognition of the strain placed on those working within the industry.

There are to be a total of 82 days when 2 or more meetings take place.
