Following a double at Naas the previous afternoon, trainer Henry De Bromhead sent out another Flat winner as Huff'n'puff rallied close home under Billy Lee to land the Michael Tiger Lyons Memorial Maiden at Roscommon.

Making most of the running, the Denis F Howard owned 10/3 chance was ridden and, headed by Changing Lanes over a furlong out.

However, the latter failed to settle the issue and, Huff'n'puff showed real determination to battle back close home to gain a neck verdict.

Stable representative Robbie Power said: “We’re delighted with that. He had a very good run first time out this year in Navan.

“Billy said afterwards that he wants a mile-and-a-half. He was a bit leery in front, they went a nice even gallop and Billy said he was very genuine up the straight. He wasn’t for passing.

“When the other horse came to him he thought for a few strides that he had him but our lad stuck his head out and galloped all the way to the line.

“I’m delighted for Denis (Howard). Roscommon has been a lucky place for him, he’s had a few winners here.

“It’s great to get that lad’s head in front and he’s a nice horse to look forward to for the summer, with a bit of ease in the ground.

“We might look for a three-year-old only handicap over a mile-and-a-half. We’ll see what options there are for him.”
