Huntingdon and Wincanton off in England Huntingdon became the latest casualty of the icy blast - with their meeting on St Stephen's Day having been abandoned. Clerk of the course Andrew Morris had announced a 12pm inspection on Christmas Eve, but moved forward that assessment to 9am on Thursday. A routine check found the Cambridgeshire circuit to still be frozen. Morris said: "We have had frost covers down all week, but we suspected frost had crept under the covers. "We started to remove them first thing in the morning, and it became pretty evident the frost was deep and widespread." Wincanton's meeting on the same day has also been abandoned due to frost and snow. Officials at the Somerset circuit were left with no option following an 0800 GMT inspection on Thursday. Temperatures have failed to rise sufficiently to prompt a sharp thaw, while there are still five inches of snow on the track. Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: "It's game over. We're forecast minus 10C on Friday and Saturday night - it's unbelievable. "It was a foregone conclusion." Leicester's meeting on Tuesday is subject to a St Stephen's Day inspection at 8.30am. The track is currently covered by snow and frozen underneath, leaving clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson praying for a Christmas miracle. "It has got to improve a lot from what we have here at the moment. We've got four inches of snow on the track and it's frozen underneath," said Stevenson. "We're due a slight improvement on Friday but severe frosts are coming back then, so we're hoping for a miracle. "We might as well have a look on Boxing Day to save messing people around. "The forecast temperatures are nowhere near what we need."
