Jockey Wayne Hutchinson feels Smad Place's victory in the Hennessy Gold Cup could just be the beginning of a dream season.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup preceded by a prep run in the BetBright Cup, registered as the Cotswold Chase, on Festival Trials Day in January is being mapped out for the grey.

The eight-year-old, trained by Alan King, leapt into the Gold Cup picture by jumping his rivals into submission in the prestigious staying handicap chase at Newbury on Saturday.

"We got him as a juvenile and he's been placed in two World Hurdles and was second in an RSA Chase. He certainly deserved that one. Hopefully all paths lead to Cheltenham," Hutchinson told At The Races.

"He got the trip very well (on Saturday) on ground that was demanding.

"We'll skip the King George and I think the Cotswold Chase is the plan and hopefully we'll get a good clear run. There's a lot to look forward to."
