I Shot The Sheriff gunning for more Tony Martin is hoping I Shot The Sheriff can complete a hat-trick when he tackles the QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr tomorrow. The eight-year-old always promised to be a good horse when trained by Warren Greatrex and David Pipe in England, and looks to be delivering on that since being switched to Ireland. He has won his last two starts in good style, scoring easily by three and a quarter lengths in a Fairyhouse handicap earlier this month. With his form in Ireland coming on soft ground, though, Martin admits he is unsure how he will handle the quicker surface in Scotland. The trainer said: "He did it well in Fairyhouse the other day. Until we run him on better ground we don't know how he'll handle it, but he's a good-actioned horse and I'd be happy enough he'll be OK. Hopefully he'll run a good race."
