Ken Condon expects Ice Cold In Alex to run his usual solid race in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Sovereign Path” Handicap at Leopardstown.

The five-year-old won twice last season in the colours of Middleham Park Racing — and while he has so far failed to add to his tally in 2019, he has run several fine races in defeat.

Having gone close in fiercely competitive handicaps on his last couple of starts, Condon is hoping his charge can enjoy his day in the sun on the opening day of Irish Champions Weekend.

He said: “He’s had a great year. He was fourth in the Irish Cambridgeshire the last day and third in the Scurry Handicap before that.

“He’s a very consistent and versatile horse. What he wants is quick ground and a good pace to run at, which you usually get in these big handicaps.

“He’ll go for the Sovereign Path and if he gets a nice draw he should run another big race.”
