IHRB commence review of Wexford unseat An IHRB official has confirmed that a review of jockey Philip Byrnes’ controversial unseat in a hurdle race at Wexford on May 28 has begun, although time-lines for completion are unknown. Riding market-drifter Redwood Queen for his father Charles Byrnes in last month’s Wexford Claiming Hurdle, the jockey was unseated while leading at the final flight, with multiple camera angles of the controversial fall attracting huge attention. The incident has brought strong comment on media platforms internationally while one IHRB scout-camera ‘reverse head-on’ angle alone has registered 15.8 million interactions on X (formerly Twitter). Confirming the review to have commenced, the IHRB’s Head of Communications Niall Cronin was reluctant to detail time-lines but stated “when conducting any review or investigation, an IHRB Senior Racing Official collaborates with and has the full support of IHRB colleagues across all departments. “Depending on the nature of the matter, the IHRB may also engage with external service providers or stakeholders as appropriate. “The current review into the Wexford matter is being conducted in line with our procedures.”
