Dundalk stages its regular Wednesday card under the lights, seven races scheduled from the County Louth venue. The meeting is made up of five competitive handicaps, an informative juvenile race and a middle-distance maiden.

Our expert, Colm Doyle, has provided his best four bets for the meeting, which gets underway at 16:55 and concludes at 19:55.

Wednesday’s Dundalk Tips

17:25 Dundalk - Coincidental Glory

17:55 Dundalk - Flaming Rib

18:55 Dundalk - Evening Blues

19:25 Dundalk - Nuit

Henry De Bromhead’s Nuit is yet to get her head in front in eight attempts, but she’s been performing well in good company this year and should be able to make the most of this much easier opportunity

17:25 Dundalk - Coincidental Glory

A course-and-distance claimer that was won by Dont Get Me Wrong might prove the key piece of form in this handicap, with the runner-up, Coincidental Glory, benefiting from a big turnaround at the weights.

There was only a half-length between that pair here 19 days ago, Dont Get Me Wrong carrying 8st 1lb to victory, as opposed to the 9st 4lb that the runner-up was shouldering.

Now back in a handicap, they’re only 4lb apart on ratings (72 vs 68) and Coincidental Glory has the added bonus of Sam Coen claiming 7lb.

17:55 Dundalk - Flaming Rib

This has a competitive look and that should ensure that Adrian McGuinness’s Flaming Rib goes off at a backable price.

The selection was a prolific winner for Tom Dascombe early in his career, rattling five wins in his first season, culminating in a Listed race at Doncaster.

He continued on an upward curve for Hugo Palmer at three, going close in a Group 2 and landing a valuable pot at Doha.

Rated 113 at his peak, he’s clearly not that force these days, but he’s run with encouragement since joining this yard, particularly over course-and-distance 12 days earlier when fourth off 84.

He’s 1lb lower this evening and first-time cheekpieces are added.

18:55 Dundalk - Evening Blues

Stall 12 probably isn’t ideal for Evening Blues, but there aren’t many in here that can be seriously fancied, so I’m confident he can build on last month’s narrow course-and-distance maiden win.

The Ger Lyons-trained gelding ran some eye-catching races over inadequate trips earlier in the year, including when second behind Aidan O’Brien’s Albert Einstein (current second favourite for the English 2,000 Guineas) over 6f at Naas in May.

Gelded prior to finishing runner-up in a first-time hood over 7f here in October, he gained an overdue win upped to a mile last month, albeit only scraping home.

Officially rated 86, this looks an ideal race for him to follow up, Nicola Burns’ 5lb claim expected to give him the edge.

19:25 Dundalk - Nuit

Henry De Bromhead’s Nuit is yet to get her head in front in eight attempts, but she’s been performing well in good company this year and should be able to make the most of this much easier opportunity.

The daughter of Sea The Stars shaped with promise on two starts as a juvenile last year, including over a mile here at this track, but she’s really improved since being stepped up in trip this term, running to Racing Post Ratings in the high 80 and early 90s in Listed and Group races.

Beaten a little off 10 lengths by subsequent dual Group 1 runner-up, Estrange, in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks, she’s fully deserving off her official mark of 93 and is impossible to oppose on that basis.
