Trainer Eoin Griffin followed up Sunday’s Grade 3 win at Cork with success in Fairyhouse’s William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle today, with veteran and yard favourite Small World (12/1).

In-form Griffin had scored with Splashing Out on Saturday and with Ol Man Dingle in Cork’s Paddy Power Novice Chase on Sunday, and today his 10-year-old Small World defeated 12 rivals when scoring under 7lb claimer Callum Hogan .

Griffin said “the horses are flying and we’re delighted with this. To be honest I would have been happy with a placing here as I thought the ground had gone a bit testing for him. Any time he has dropped back to a 100, or below, he has won and that’s his level.

“He’s a real yard favourite and is probably the horse that’s been longest in the yard. He’s only a small horse but has the heart of a lion - if he was a couple of inches bigger he’d be a champion!

“When he gets into his grade he tries his best every day and we’re delighted to have him. We’ll probably give him an entry in a series final at Navan (November 15), which might come a bit soon but it’s a nice pot.”
