Invictus work delights connections Invictus, the ante-post favourite for the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury on November 30th, delighted his owner, Richard Kelvin Hughes, in a morning breeze on the all-weather at Barbury Castle Stables on Wednesday. Trained by Alan King, the seven year old was forced to miss the whole of last season due to injury but the vibes have been positive over the summer that he could return to the sort of form that saw him beat both Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti in the Reynoldstown Chase. The trainer's website revealed that Invictus impressed as he lengthened clear of Our Phylli Vera at the end of the gallop and King cannot wait to get him back on track. He said:"There are no short cuts after such an injury, but we have been patient and he has done everything right since he returned. We took him to Newbury last Friday and he did a real good piece of work on the grass with Batonnier, and it did him good as it got the adrenaline flowing again. "Invictus did three solid pieces of work here at Barbury before he went to Newbury, so he is getting there, but I would like to give him another away-day some time next week. He is much more relaxed since he returned, and we just hope that everything goes smoothly between now and Newbury," he told www.alankingracing.com.
