Irish Guineas next target for Lifeplan following spring setback Gimcrack hero Lifeplan faces a race against time to be ready for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh. The Declan Carroll-trained colt was unbeaten in two starts last season, taking a Thirsk novice in good style on debut before striking Group Two gold at York’s Ebor Festival in August. The initial plan was to taken in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket en-route to a planned tilt at next weekend’s Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, but an issue with a tooth necessitated a spell on antibiotics which has left the Kodi Bear colt behind in his preparation. “He’s had a setback, he had to have a tooth taken out about five or six weeks back,” said Carroll. “We were going to go for the Craven but couldn’t, and we’ve ended up having to take him out of the English Guineas as well. “He’s still in the Irish Guineas (May 23), but we’ll have to take it day by day and see where we are – he is back in training. “He’s done really well from two to three, he was working well and we were very happy with him but then he got an infection in a tooth and it had to be taken out. “He was on a lot of antibiotics for it. We just have the get the horse right and then we’ll make a plan.”
